There are many methods of how to create those trendy mac pills. This one makes use of Photoshop's styles. Because this translucent pill button is not made using gradient fills and brush tools, you only need to be slightly acquainted with Photoshop to have this done in less than five minutes.



1.) Create a new document large enough to fit your pill button. It is wise to leave space around it for a drop shadow as well.
2.) Take the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) and set the radius to 100 pixels. This is to ensure that your button will have two flat sides and two rounded sides. Color does not matter.
3.) Set the opacity of the shape layer to 95 percent and the fill to 70 percent.



4.) Click the Add a Layer Style button at the bottom of the Layers Palette, and choose Drop Shadow... from the drop down list. Input the following settings in the styles dialog.

















5.) Click OK.
Conclusion
These useful buttons are not only easy to make, but they look very good. Tip: to get the transparency to work on web page, choose File > Save for Web... and select PNG 24 for the file type. The file will be a bit bigger, but PNGs support opacity, so objects like backgrounds on a web page will be visible through it to a degree.
