Room At The Top is a drama series based on John Braine’s classic book about Joe Lampton, a young man on the make in 1940’s Yorkshire.

Season 1 , Episode 1
Having managed to qualify as an accountant in a German prisoner of war camp, Joe leaves working-class Dufton behind him and takes a job as senior audit clerk at the town hall in affluent Warley. He begins to make his mark on Warley society and quickly shows his natural skill at climbing the career ladder up through the petty politics of local government. He has several things on his mind though which are money and sexand his ambitions go well beyond anything offered by civic life.

Alice forgives Joe following his outburst and the two begin seeing each other again. It becomesmuch harder though to keep the affair secret and they are soon the subject of Warley gossip. Susan learns the truth and decides to finish her relationship with Joe. Joe and Alice go to a seaside cottage for four days of illicit and perfect love. Alice is scared about what the future holds for them both and promises are made. Alice manages to suppresse her concerns but a sense of tragedy hangs over them.

### Story Line ###

While on a plane ride back to Toronto from a writing assignment, Margot meets Daniel, a handsome stranger.
An immediate attraction is formed and Margot is able to open up and discuss some of her fears and longings.
A taxi ride back home causes Daniel and Margot to realize that they are neighbours and Margot admits she's
married. The summer-time heat and her increasing fascination with the handsome artist who lives across the
street starts getting to her, and Margot is no longer sure if she's happy in her marriage or if she'd be
